love, life, and the pursuit of liberation
So many good things are happening today.
1- My students are at the publishing phase of their first unit– Personal Narratives– so it’s been a chill day with Floetry and Erykah Badu and the like playing in the background as they “Write, Baby, Write”. I would post a picture of how extremely focused they are but I don’t want to jeopardize their privacy. Believe it or not, their stories are pretty good! They had to write about a life-changing small moment and the stories range from “The day my father left” to “the day I became a big sister.” Pretty good for 5th graders!
2- I got an impromptu prep period!! Anyone who’s a teacher knows how this is akin to hitting the lottery. We switched the schedule around in september so I gave up a prep period, so that we can have a small remediation class for our 18 kids who are reading at or below 1st grade reading level (yes, this is 5th grade..). It’s really helping those students, but I have basically an hour prep a day when I teach 100 kids. Totally not enough. We have a teacher out of the building today so our schedule was changed, which freed up time for me. Yipee!! On top of that, my lunchtime meeting was cancelled so I get that full 30 minutes to myself too.
3- I’ll talk about that in a password protected post for now 🙂 Leave a message or email me if you’d like the password.
